One-page brief

A shared data foundation for better study orientation

StudyCompass wants to make higher education offers easier to discover, compare, and plan — first in Austria, later with a European perspective.

Problem

Higher education offers, curricula, courses, and dates are spread across many systems. This makes it hard for graduates, prospective students, and active students to discover options early and plan reliably.

Proposal

StudyCompass defines a shared OpenAPI contract for public higher education data. Institutions can implement this standard so study information is provided once in a structured way and can be used reliably by applications.

Target users

  • Graduates and prospective students
  • Students before and during semester planning
  • Institutions and national organizations that want to improve study orientation

Benefits

  • Students discover and plan study options more easily.
  • Institutions reduce custom integration work.
  • National organizations gain an interoperable foundation for transparent public higher education data.

Proof of concept

We are looking for higher education institutions willing to cooperate with us on a proof of concept — either by:

  • Providing existing structured public data that StudyCompass can parse and normalize.
  • Cooperating on an implementation of the shared OpenAPI contract if no suitable public interface exists yet.

Scope

The first focus is Austria. Long term, the approach should expand toward Europe so study opportunities become easier to navigate across borders.

Concrete ask

We are looking for feedback on the approach, introductions to relevant contacts, and interested pilot institutions for a shared higher education API.
